The currency of the Aerican Empire is the Monetary Unit, or mu (symbol: ). The mu is subdivided into the solari (ƺ), the value of which is pegged at par to the price of a gram of hydrogen. There are π42 (or approximately 13.37) solaris per mu, so that 42 solaris are equal to π mu.

The concept of an Aerican currency had been discussed unofficially for some time before the final details were established. The first minting of a dual-valued mu/solari coin was in 2009. A second limited-edition release of a one solari coin was commissioned in 2012, to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Empire.

Due to the pegged value, 1 mu is presently equal to approximately US$1.34.
