Aerican Empire Wiki:Signature Policy

The Aerican Empire Wiki's signature policy is described on this page. In order to identify users and attribute comments and votes on talk pages and other discussion pages on the wiki, user comments must be signed. This is particularly important on pages where voting is involved: votes which are unsigned and undated may be considered invalid.

Signature Use

Signatures must be included:

• When leaving a message on a talk page or user talk page,
• When leaving a message on the Village Pump or the Community Portal,
• When leaving a message on another discussion page, and
• When voting on anything, such as article deletion.

Signatures must include a date:

• When voting.

Signature Design

The standard signature on Wikia (produced via ~~~~ or ~~~ to provide a signature without the date) consists of a simple link to your user page. This can be customized in your preferences under "user profile." You can create a custom signature by checking the "raw signatures" box, and entering the MediaWiki code for your new signature in the "Signature" field.

There are several restrictions you must follow when creating a customized signature:

• You may not include any images in your signature;
• You must include your actual user name, or a depiction of it;

For example: If your username is King of Hearts, your signature could be King of Hearts or King of ♥.

• You may have only one font color;
• You must link to both your userpage and talk page;
• You may include subscript or superscript text, but not both; and
• If you are using a template for your custom signature (such as {{User:Username/Sig}}), you must substitute it by entering {{subst:User:Username/Sig}} in your preferences.

The following are specifically prohibited:

• Magic words such as {{PAGENAME}}.
• Line-breaks (<br />).
• Superscript and/or subscript nesting ^likethis.
